A historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Saturday at the permanent campus of Eastern University in Ashulia, Dhaka, among five leading universities located in the area.
The MoU was signed by Eastern University Vice Chancellor Professor Farid A Sobhani, Daffodil International University Vice Chancellor Professor MR Kabir, City University Vice Chancellor Brigadier General Engr Md Lutfor Rahman (Retd), Manarat International University Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammad Abdur Rob, and Asian University of Bangladesh Vice Chancellor Emeritus Professor Shahjahan Khan.
The registrars of all five universities signed the document as witnesses, read a press release issued Sunday.
A video message was delivered by Daffodil International University and Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) Chairman Dr Md Sabur Khan.
The event was attended by Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) Chairman Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Eastern University Board of Trustees Member Engr Khandaker Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, and Asian University of Bangladesh Founding Chairman Professor Abul Hasan M Sadeq.
The primary objective of the MoU is to establish Ashulia as a “Higher Education Hub” through collaboration among the universities in education, research, infrastructure development, and community engagement.
The signatory universities will jointly organise academic and co-curricular programmes, including seminars, conferences, workshops, sports competitions, debates, and leadership and entrepreneurship development activities.
They also committed to ensuring a drug-free and safe campus environment, while addressing local issues such as transportation, waste management, and environmental sustainability through joint initiatives.
The vice chancellors agreed to hold an annual meeting to review progress and plan future collaborations.
The initiative marks a new milestone in Bangladesh’s higher education landscape, setting a strong example of shared growth and academic partnership while paving the way for Ashulia to emerge as a vibrant centre for integrated higher education and innovation.
