A court has granted a three-day remand for Syed Abed Ali, a retired driver of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC), in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.
Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court issued the order on Thursday after hearing arguments from both sides.
ACC Assistant Director Al Amin had requested a seven-day remand, while Abed Ali’s lawyers sought bail, which was opposed by the prosecution. The court rejected the bail plea and approved a three-day remand.
The ACC alleges that Abed Ali accumulated wealth inconsistent with his declared income and was involved in suspicious banking transactions linked to several government officials, including Md Zakaria Rahman.
Investigators say Abed Ali, despite being a retired driver, played a role in a large-scale question paper leak network and maintained extensive contacts with government employees.
The commission said he could provide crucial information for the ongoing investigation, making intensive questioning necessary.
Abed Ali was arrested on 8 July, 2024, by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly leaking question papers from around 30 government recruitment exams, including the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) tests.
