Sabina Akter Tuhin, former lawmaker from a reserved women’s seat, has been formally shown as arrested in two separate murder cases linked to last year’s July mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam issued the order on Wednesday, following a police petition. Tuhin’s lawyer, Morshed Hossain Shahin, confirmed the development.

According to the first case, on 19 July, 2024, Moktakin Billah was shot in the head while participating in a protest in front of the Fire Service in Mirpur-10. He later died in hospital. Tuhin was named as the eighth accused in the case filed with the Mirpur Police Station on 7 September.

In the second case, Ashraful Islam was shot during a protest in Mirpur on the evening of 4 August, 2024, and died after being admitted to a hospital. Tuhin was listed as the 18th accused in the case filed on 22 September.

Earlier this year, on 22 June, Tuhin was arrested late at night by the Detective Branch (DB) of police from her father’s residence in Nawabganj, Dhaka. She was sent to jail the following day through a court order.
