A court in Dhaka on Thursday placed former DGFI director and dismissed Lieutenant Colonel Md Afzal Naser on a four-day remand in a case over the killing of Mahmudul Hasan during the July Mass Uprising in 2024 in Uttara.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah issued the order after police produced Naser before the court and sought a seven-day remand for further questioning.

According to court proceedings, a team from the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested former DGFI director Afzal Naser from his residence at Mirpur DOHS on 30 March, 2026.

Case documents state that Mahmudul Hasan participated in a procession of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 5 August, 2024, in Azampur area under Uttara East Police Station.

During the event, the procession came under attack and Mahmudul Hasan was shot.

He was later taken to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The case was filed with Uttara East Police Station on 26 September, 2024.
