A case has been filed against former Cox’s Bazar town Chhatra Dal general secretary Al Amin and former Awami League district executive committee member Badrul Hasan Milky over the illegal occupation of a residential resort in Cox’s Bazar.
Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the incident. The incident occurred around 3am Monday in the Light House area of Cox’s Bazar town.
Israt Jahan Chowdhury, wife of the resort owner, filed the case with Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, naming five people and accusing 10 to 12 unidentified people.
Police arrested Mahfuz Shakil, the second accused in the case, from the scene. He is the son of Shamshuddin of Ratnapalong in Ukhia upazila.
According to the case statement, the accused initially demanded Tk10 lakh in extortion. After failing to receive the money, they occupied four flats and an 800‑square‑foot ground‑floor shop at Milky Resort.
Later, around 3am, a group of 10 to 12 people occupied Nokshi Resort in the Light House area.
Police rushed to the scene after receiving a call through the emergency number 999 and arrested Shakil. Officer in charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali confirmed the matter.
Nokshi Resort owner Abdur Rashid Chowdhury alleged that he had rented four flats and a shop at Milky Resort to Al Amin, whom he identified as the son of Jamaat leader Maulana Alamgir.
He claimed Al Amin occupied the properties without paying rent and later tried to implicate him in false cases, including mugging and rape.
Al Amin denied the allegations, calling Abdur Rashid a “fraudster.” He claimed the land on which Nokshi Resort stands belonged to the late Abchar Uddin Chowdhury and alleged that Rashid forged documents to occupy the resort after Abchar Uddin’s death.
The occupation occurred a day after Al Amin posted on social media criticising local journalists over reports on land grabbing in Cox’s Bazar town.
