More than 100 children with heart complications received free specialised cardiac care at a two-day health camp organised by Evercare Hospital Dhaka’s Paediatric Cardiology Department in Narsingdi, according to a press release issued on Friday.
The camp took place at Bhaterchar Government Primary School in Belabo on 28 and 29 November, where children underwent clinical examinations, 2D and colour Doppler echocardiography, and consultations for both medical and surgical interventions.
Senior Consultant and Coordinator of Clinical and Interventional Paediatric Cardiology Dr Tahera Nazrin led the medical team and provided full-day outdoor services free of cost. Senior Consultant of the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Department Dr Sohail Ahmed was also present to assess patients requiring surgical procedures, the release said.
The event was inaugurated by Narsingdi Civil Surgeon Syed Amirul Haque. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Raipura Upazila Khan Nooruddin Md Jahangir, former Bhaterchar Upazila chairman Abu Tarik M A Al-Hussain and paediatric cardiology doctors of Evercare Hospital Dhaka joined the programme.
The hospital said the camp is part of its wider commitment to making advanced paediatric cardiac treatment accessible to children from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Services included echocardiography for early diagnosis, doctor appointment support, pre-admission guidance and assistance for shifting patients to Evercare Hospital Dhaka for further treatment.
The paediatric cardiology department also provides free devices, balloons and essential clinical support for congenital heart disease, the release said.
“The global prevalence of congenital heart disease is eight to twelve per thousand live births, but treatment in Bangladesh remains insufficient compared to the need,” said Dr Tahera Nazrin, adding that the department is committed to offering world-class services free of charge to underprivileged children and calling on public and private actors to support the effort.
