Central executive council of Jamaat-e-Islami has dissolved the current organisational committee of its Cumilla city branch following an incident of attack and vandalism involving two opposing groups at the branch office.
Central leadership decided that the activities of Cumilla city branch will be operated under direct supervision of central office until further notice.
The decisions were announced on Friday in a press release signed by Ehsanul Mahboob Zubair, assistant secretary general and secretary of central publicity and media department.
According to the release, dissolution of the organisational committee and amarat was executed under powers granted by Article 63, following sub-clause ‘f’ of clause 3 of Article 16 of the party constitution.
The action followed an emergency meeting of central executive council held on Thursday (15 October) evening at the central office of Jamaat in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
Chaired by Shafiqur Rahman, party ameer and leader of the opposition in parliament, the meeting thoroughly reviewed overall situation and untoward incident that occurred at the Cumilla city office on 14 October.
To oversee the Cumilla city branch, Maulana Abdul Halim, assistant secretary general, has been given supervisory responsibility. Meanwhile, a two-member high-level probe committee has been formed to investigate the actual cause and overall situation of the 14 October incident.
The committee comprises ATM Azharul Islam MP, party nayeb-e-amir, and Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan, assistant secretary general.
The probe body has been directed to submit a detailed report within one week to Dr Shafiqur Rahman, party amir and leader of the opposition in parliament, after which the central executive council will take necessary organizational decisions.
