The European Union (EU) has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EOM) for the upcoming 13th national election scheduled for 12 February.
Ali Riaz, Chief Adviser’s special assistant and also chief coordinator of public awareness activities for the election and referendum, held a courtesy meeting with the EU’s EOM Political Analyst Marcel Negi and Election Analyst Vasil Vashchenko at 3pm on Tuesday.
EOM analysts briefed about the mission’s objectives. They informed that the mission’s core team of 11 analysts arrived in Dhaka on 29 December 2025 with nearly 200 observers in total.
The mission will deploy 56 long-term observers across Bangladesh on 17 January, who will observe the election process in their assigned areas and report to the core team.
Around 90 short-term observers will join the mission shortly before election day to observe voting, counting, and tabulation of results. Furthermore, several additional short-term observers from the EU diplomatic community and partner countries will also participate.
Following the EU’s specific observation methodology, the mission will provide a fact-based, comprehensive, and impartial analysis of the entire election process.
The mission will present its preliminary findings at a press conference in Dhaka on 14 February and publish the report on its website and social media.
After the election is fully concluded, the mission will submit a detailed final report with recommendations for improving future election systems to relevant stakeholders.
