A sharp rise in student failures across English and Mathematics has dragged Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent pass rate down to 62.25 per cent this year, marking a steep decline from last year’s performance.
Announcing the results on Monday at the Ministry of Education’s conference room, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon revealed that while the two core subjects saw the highest number of failed candidates nationwide.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) emerged as the subject with the highest number of successful students across all boards.
According to the performance analysis, only 1,16,676 students achieved GPA-5 this year, compared to 1,39,032 GPA-5 achievers in the 2025 academic year when the nationwide average pass rate stood higher at 68.45 per cent.
For the nine general education boards, the average pass rate reached 64.05 per cent. This represents a drop of 3.99 per cent from last year’s general board average of 68.04 per cent.
Analysing the pass rates of individual general education boards, Dhaka board recorded a 78.40 per cent pass rate in English and 82.85 per cent in Mathematics, while Rajshahi Board saw 74.7 per cent pass in English and 77.17 per cent in Mathematics.
In Comilla board, 81.29 per cent of students cleared English and 81.75 per cent passed Mathematics.
Jashore board registered pass rates of 71.84 per cent and 83.34 per cent in English and Mathematics respectively, compared to 72.27 per cent and 80.05 per cent in Chittagong Board.
In Barisal board, the pass rate stood at 69.24 per cent in English and 77.98 per cent in Mathematics.
Sylhet board recorded 69.11 per cent in English and 75.96 per cent in Mathematics, while Dinajpur board achieved 72.91 per cent and 71.05 per cent respectively.
Mymensingh board registered a pass rate of 66.64 per cent in English and 69.61 per cent in Mathematics.
In the specialised streams, Madrasah board achieved a pass rate of 79.21 per cent in English and 69.97 per cent in Mathematics.
Meanwhile, Technical board recorded 94.79 per cent in English and 70.92 per cent in Mathematics.
