BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said the national election is taking place in a favourable environment and expressed hope that a fair vote would allow for state reforms.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at his residence in Thakurgaon.
Fakhrul said he has been fighting to restore democracy over the past 16 years and expects the election to return democratic governance. He added that Tarique Rahman’s visit to Thakurgaon had a positive impact and that concerns over election engineering would not affect the process. Government officials and employees, he said, would perform their duties responsibly.
“I do not see any possibility of election engineering this time,” he added.
Commenting on the political climate, Fakhrul said BNP treats every election seriously and does not underestimate opponents.
He alleged that Jamaat spreads false news and uses various strategies to influence voters, while BNP focuses on positive politics.
“Everyone is free to vote for whom they wish. All eligible voters should go and cast their vote,” Fakhrul said.
