A 60-year-old woman, identified as Sufia, has died from measles while undergoing treatment at the 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital. She passed away late on Sunday night.
Sufia was a resident of Adabaria Union in Daulat pur Upazila and the daughter of Omar Ali.
Hospital sources said Sufia was admitted on 29 May with fever, cold, cough and body rash. Her condition deteriorated during treatment, resulting in her death.
This brings the total number of measles-related deaths in Kushtia over the past four months to 13, including 12 children and one elderly person.
Medical Officer Nasrin of the Civil Surgeon’s Office in Kushtia reported that since the outbreak began, a total of 1,594 patients have been admitted across Kushtia Medical College Hospital, the 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital, and various Upazila Health Complexes. Of these, 1,526 patients have recovered and returned home.
Nasrin further noted that 11 new patients were admitted in the past 24 hours, while 14 recovered and were discharged. Currently, 68 children are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the district.
