Veteran filmmaker, television producer and senior member of the Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association, Mustafizur Rahman, has passed away.
He died at around 6pm on Sunday (26 July) at his residence in Uttara, Dhaka, after battling a prolonged illness.
Family members said he will be laid to rest on 30 July, as his two sons are currently living abroad.
Mustafizur Rahman was one of the pioneering producers of the golden era of Bangladesh Television (BTV).
He was widely recognised as the producer of Humayun Ahmed’s acclaimed television serial Eishob Dinratri.
He also directed the film Shankhanil Karagar, based on Humayun Ahmed’s celebrated novel, and produced numerous popular television dramas throughout his career.
His creative vision and contribution played a significant role in shaping Bangladesh’s television drama industry.
During his career, he served as Director General of Bangladesh Television (BTV) before later becoming the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Banglavision.
Beyond his work as a producer and filmmaker, Mustafizur Rahman was also known for mentoring and inspiring many young media professionals.
His death has cast a pall of mourning over Bangladesh’s cultural and media communities, with colleagues, artistes and admirers paying tribute to his contributions and praying for the eternal peace of his soul.
