Indian media ‘Ei Samay’ has misrepresented its interview with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party alleged in a statement on Tuesday.
“The report has been published in the India media outlet in a misleading manner. It is distorted and confusing,” says the press release issued by BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan.
“The BNP secretary general has clearly said that the remarks attributed to him in the interview were never made.”
According to the media cell, Fakhrul said: “The statement published by India’s Ei Samay is false and has been wrongly presented.”
It further claimed that several Bangladeshi media outlets have published misleading reports based on the interview, which are “not accurate”.
A Facebook post from the BNP media cell reiterated: “Mirza Fakhrul is a senior political leader and never makes irrelevant or misleading remarks.”
Fakhrul strongly condemned the publication of such reports, urging the public not to be misled and calling on journalists to remain cautious about such “distorted news”.
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has also reacted to Ei Samay’s report and protested against the remarks attributed to Fakhrul, where the BNP leader allegedly said Jamaat was pressuring BNP over not being allocated 30 parliamentary seats under the proportional representation. Jamaat has dismissed the comments as “false and vindictive”.
Parwar said: “We came across the BNP secretary general’s reported statement about Jamaat in a recent interview with Kolkata-based Ei Samay. It is difficult to believe that a senior politician like Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir would make such completely false, disgraceful, and vindictive remarks.”
He added: “The statement has no relation to truth or decency. If these remarks are indeed his, we are compelled to protest and condemn them. And if they are his, we call on him to present proof to the nation as to whom Jamaat allegedly demanded these seats.”
