The Election Commission (EC) is planning to complete the by-elections for the postponed Sherpur-3 and the vacant Bogra-6 constituencies before Pahela Baishakh on 14 April.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Mashud shared the update at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon on Sunday.
Mashud explained that the commission intends to hold the polls early to avoid the storms and rain typically seen during the month of Baishakh.
“Necessary preparations for the by-elections have already begun,” he stated, noting that the commission will decide on the official schedule after evaluating the timing.
He further emphasised that the elections would be organised in accordance with constitutional requirements and legal processes.
The commissioner also mentioned that the postal ballot system will remain available, with the commission taking necessary steps to ensure participation from expatriates and absent voters.
The Sherpur-3 election was originally postponed by the EC due to the death of a candidate prior to the polls.
Meanwhile, the Bogura-6 seat fell vacant after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who was elected in both Bogra-6 and Dhaka-17, announced his decision to vacate the seat before being sworn in. Following this declaration, the Election Commission officially declared the seat vacant.
