The Election Commission (EC) has served a show-cause notice to Mamunul Haque, Ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis and candidate for the Dhaka-13 constituency, for alleged violations of the election code of conduct.
The notice, signed on Wednesday by Md Yunus Ali, regional election officer and returning officer of the Dhaka region, cites reports that Mamunul Haque, along with his supporters, distributed leaflets among the public in front of the Election Commission building on 13 January at 5pm.
The incident was reported by Dhaka Post online.
According to the EC, distributing election materials more than three weeks before the scheduled polling day of 12 February breaches Rules 3 and 18 of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates, 2025.
The commission has directed Mamunul Haque to appear either personally or through a representative and submit a written explanation by 5pm on 17 January, explaining why legal action should not be taken against him for the alleged violations.
