‘Dune: Part Three’ took centre stage at CinemaCon as Warner Bros and Legendary unveiled a seven-minute opening sequence, offering an early look at the next chapter in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic.
The footage, introduced in Las Vegas by Villeneuve alongside stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa, opened with a violent battlefield sequence that sets the tone for a darker and more intense continuation of the saga.
Set 17 years after the previous film, the story follows Paul Atreides as he rules as Emperor, while facing the personal and political consequences of his rise to power. The new footage highlights growing unrest across the galaxy and the cost of his leadership, including conflict tied to his followers and strained personal relationships.
Villeneuve described the third instalment as more fast-paced and emotionally driven than its predecessors, calling it a shift from the contemplative tone of the first film and the war-driven second entry. He said the new film would play more like a thriller while maintaining the franchise’s scale.
The cast includes returning actors such as Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Charlotte Rampling, with Anya Taylor-Joy also returning in a larger role. New additions include Robert Pattinson, who plays the villain Scytale, while Jason Momoa returns in a resurrected form.
Chalamet said the role has grown with him over the years, describing the experience of working with Villeneuve as one of the most significant of his career.
Dune: Part Three is scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026.
