Bangladesh pace duo Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam are making a growing impact for Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing Pakistan Super League, earning praise from former South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy.

While Shoriful has been effective with the new ball, striking early and applying pressure in the powerplay, Nahid has stood out in the middle overs with his ability to break partnerships. Their combined efforts have played a key role in strengthening Peshawar’s bowling attack.

Nahid, who was part of Peshawar’s squad last season but did not feature due to team combinations, finally made his PSL debut this year. His first outing, against Hyderabad Kingsmen, was underwhelming as he went wicketless, conceding 30 runs in three overs.

However, the right-arm pacer responded emphatically in the following matches. He produced a standout spell against Karachi Kings, claiming three wickets for just seven runs. He then followed it up with another impressive performance against Lahore Qalandars, picking up two wickets for 15 runs.

Although Shoriful has taken only two wickets in four matches, his value lies in his discipline and control. The left-arm seamer has kept things tight, often building pressure that allows his teammates to capitalise at the other end.

Duminy was particularly impressed with Nahid’s combination of pace and accuracy, describing him as a key asset to Peshawar’s bowling unit.

“Nahid Rana has been outstanding. It’s not just his pace, but the control he has at that speed which makes him special,” Duminy said.

He also praised Shoriful’s contribution, noting that both bowlers have delivered in crucial moments.

“If you look at them as a pair, they’ve been very effective. They pick up wickets under pressure and step up whenever the team needs them. From a bowling perspective, it’s been close to perfect for Peshawar.”

Nahid’s rise has not been limited to franchise cricket. The young pacer has recently impressed in ODI cricket for Bangladesh and continues to show promise in T20s and Tests with his raw pace.

Duminy believes Nahid has the tools to succeed across all formats.

“The pace he generates is something to watch. With that kind of control and speed, he can trouble batters in any format of the game.”
