BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has said that the fall of autocracy was achieved through collective efforts, but establishing democracy now requires a united and sustained initiative.
“There are multifaceted conspiracies, and we must remain united,” he said on Wednesday at a discussion marking the founding anniversary of the National Labour Party, held at the party’s office in Zaman Tower, Dhaka.
Dudu said the downfall of autocracy was achieved through people’s unity, but democracy must now be institutionalised through continued awareness and participation.
Accusing Sheikh Hasina of destroying democracy, moral values, and her own political organisation, he alleged that she carried out indiscriminate killings and widespread corruption. “There is no bank in Bangladesh that she and her family have not looted,” he said.
He warned of both domestic and foreign conspiracies, saying, “A neighbouring country is giving shelter to killers and looters. We must stay united to protect Bangladesh and restore democracy.”
Referring to the interim government’s plan to hold elections in the first week of February, he said, “People believe the election will take place within February and that it will pave the way for democracy to be re-established in Bangladesh.”
The discussion was attended by Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolon President KM Rokibul Islam Ripon, General Secretary Advocate Zakir Hossain, National Labour Party spokesperson Shariful Islam, Treasurer Habibur Rahman, and Dhaka North City President Maidul Islam Asad, among others.
