The University of Dhaka (DU) has announced a three-day mourning programme following the death of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia and will hold a condolence meeting.
The university will observe the mourning from Tuesday to Thursday with due solemnity and dignity, paying respect to what it described as a symbol of national unity.
As part of the programme, the university will hold a condolence meeting on Sunday, 4 January 2026, at 11am at the auditorium of the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.
To organise the condolence meeting, the university has formed a five-member committee, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Mamun Ahmed serving as convener. Vice-Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan approved the committee.
The committee members include Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan; Dean of the Faculty of Science, Abdus Salam; Professor of Department of Persian Language and Literature, Md Abul Kalam Sarkar and Professor of Institute of Business Administration, Md Mohiuddin.
