A total of 51 registered political parties have submitted nomination papers for the upcoming national election, Election Commission (EC) official confirmed on Tuesday.
Md Ruhul Amin Mallik, director of Public Relations at the EC, told reporters at the commission’s headquarters that 2,570 candidates, including those from political parties and independent contenders, have filed their nominations so far.
However, the EC has not yet released detailed information on how many candidates each party has nominated or the total number of independent candidates.
Currently, 59 political parties are registered with the EC. The registration of the Bangladesh Awami League has been suspended, while the PDP, Freedom Party, and Okiyaboddha Nagorik Andolan have had their registrations cancelled.
According to the election schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers will take place from 30 December to 4 January, 2026. Appeals against Returning Officers’ decisions can be filed from 5 January to 9 January, with appeal hearings scheduled between 10 January and 18 January. The deadline for withdrawing candidacy is 20 January.
The Returning Officer will publish the final list of candidates and allocate election symbols on 21 January. Election campaigning will begin on 22 January and continue until 7:30am on 10 February. Voting is scheduled for 12 February next year.
