The residential hall seat of Shahriar Islam Tushar, the student accused in the incident of harassing and physically assaulting two women near Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University’s TSC area, has been cancelled.
This information was announced in a notice signed by the Provost of Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Professor SM Ali Reza, on Wednesday.
Earlier, on 25 February, a video of the incident spread on social media. The following day, on 26 February, two individuals who were with the victim women filed a written complaint with the university’s Proctor’s Office.
An investigation committee was formed over the incident.
Based on the investigation committee’s recommendations, on 10 March, three students were expelled from the university for six months. The expelled students are: Shahriar Islam Tushar of the Theatre and Performance Studies department, Rakib Ahmed of the World Religions and Culture department, and Shahriar Tanjil of the Anthropology department.
The hall administration’s notice stated that due to Tushar’s involvement in the February 24 incident at the TSC intersection’s Raju Memorial Sculpture area, the university authorities have expelled him for six months. In light of the Proctor’s Office’s memorandum dated 10 March, his allocated seat has been cancelled according to university rules.
The notice further stated that he must vacate the hall within the next seven days by submitting his hall identity card, room key, and other belongings.
