Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, the proctor of Dhaka University, has resigned from his post. He submitted his resignation letter to Vice-Chancellor ABM Obaidul Islam on Sunday.
Saifuddin assumed the responsibilities on 28 August 2024, following the fall of Awami League regime.
Confirming the development to TIMES of Bangladesh, he said he wished to step down from the position for “personal reasons”.
Reflecting on his tenure, Saifuddin noted that he has served for the past 20 months and believes the current situation has reached a balanced state. He expressed a desire to dedicate more time to his academic department and his family.
“When I go to the department, I feel like a guest. I cannot give them time,” he remarked.
The Vice-Chancellor Obaidul Islam confirmed the submission of the resignation letter to the media. He said the university administration would make a decision regarding the proctor shortly.
