The University of Dhaka (DU) has invited applications for admission to its PhD programme for the July-December semester of the 2026-27 academic session, setting out academic qualifications, publication requirements and experience criteria for prospective candidates.
Application forms are available on the university’s website and must be submitted to the office of the respective department chairperson or institute director, together with the required supporting documents and a research synopsis, the university said in a press release.
Applicants are required to submit the original receipt of a Tk 1,000 payment made at Janata Bank’s TSC Branch, photocopies of mark sheets and certificates from all examinations, and one recently taken passport-sized photograph attested by the proposed supervisor, department chairperson or institute director.
Candidates holding degrees obtained from foreign institutions must first secure equivalency approval before applying. The university said applications containing false or concealed information would be cancelled.
To qualify for admission, applicants must hold either an MPhil degree, a four-year bachelor’s (Honours) degree and a one-year master’s degree from a public university, or a three-year bachelor’s (Honours) degree followed by a one-year master’s degree.
Candidates must have obtained at least a Second Division or Second Class, or a minimum of 50% marks, in all public examinations. Under the CGPA system, applicants must have achieved a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all examinations from the Secondary School Certificate or equivalent through to the master’s degree.
Applicants are also required to have published at least two research papers in recognised academic journals. For candidates applying to the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Business Studies, at least one of those publications must be authored solely by the applicant.
Candidates with a three-year bachelor’s (Honours) degree and a one-year master’s degree must additionally have at least two years’ teaching experience at the undergraduate level in a recognised educational institution, or two years’ research experience at a recognised research institution, or two years’ employment in a government, private, autonomous or semi-autonomous organisation.
