A Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader has filed a case against seven Facebook pages over allegations of spreading religious hatred and communal incitement by misusing artificial intelligence to target established figures and political leaders.
On Monday, Jannatul Ferdous Jui, a member of Rokeya Hall branch of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s Dhaka University (DU) unit, filed the petition before the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka.
Judge Mohammad Saidur Rahman Gazi recorded her statement and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe the allegations.
Sayed Nazrul Islam, general secretary of the Dhaka Bar Association and counsel for the complainant, confirmed the matter.
The accused Facebook pages are Fight Against Hindutva (Backup), Fight Against Hindutvaa Official, FAH Exclusive, Osman Chy Chand, SB Billal Hasanat Anu, Riyashat Farhan Hossain and Harul Haque.
According to the case statement, the accused have allegedly acted in collusion for some time to harass Jannatul Ferdous Jui and her associate Tawhida Sultana in an attempt to drive them away from online activism.
The complaint says the pages posted defamatory, obscene and false comments using bot accounts.
It further alleges that the accused used AI technology to create distorted images and videos to politically blackmail the complainant.
On 23 December, the accused made obscene remarks about the complainant and a witness and also circulated religiously provocative statements.
The petition includes allegations of obscene threats sent via Messenger and attempts to socially humiliate the complainant through coordinated online attacks.
Following the hearing, the court directed the CID to conduct an investigation into the allegations and submit a report.
