Bangladesh’s stock market extended its recent rally on Monday, with the benchmark Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) index briefly touching the 5,800-point mark for the first time in 22 months before ending just below the level as sustained buying absorbed mid-session profit-taking despite lower trading turnover.

The broad-based DSEX rose 0.21 per cent to close at 5,799.5. The blue-chip DS30 index gained 1.2 points to 2,193, while the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 8.7 points to 1,350, reflecting broad-based strength.

EBL Securities Research wrote in their post-closing market commentary that the market opened strongly, with the benchmark crossing the 5,800-point level in early trading as investors accumulated shares on expectations of a stronger market outlook.

Profit-taking later pared the gains, but renewed buying towards the close left the index just shy of the psychological milestone.
