Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has inaugurated a new collection booth of Dhaka Bank at its Zone-2 (Khilgaon) office in Dhaka to speed up revenue collection, simplify trade licence fee payments and bring banking services closer to residents.
DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the booth at a ceremony in Khilgaon on Wednesday (22 July 2026), the city corporation said in a press release.
Speaking at the event as chief guest, Abdus Salam said the government was committed to improving service quality through a competitive system. He said the new Dhaka Bank collection booth would allow residents in the area to access various city corporation fees and services more easily.
“The current government is committed to improving service quality through a competitive system. With the launch of this new collection booth of Dhaka Bank, residents of this area will be able to access various city corporation fees and services more easily,” Abdus Salam said.
Criticising the previous government’s approach to collection activities, he said responsibilities had earlier been concentrated with a particular institution to benefit a specific group. He said the current government believed in open competition and that organisations providing better and faster services would move ahead.
“It is with this consideration that Dhaka Bank has been given this opportunity. I hope they will prove their capability through competition and deliver quality services to people at their doorsteps,” he said.
The DSCC administrator said the city corporation, which is funded by taxpayers’ money, was being made more dynamic and accountable. He added that officials and employees had been instructed to ensure faster services within the stipulated time and that negligence would not be tolerated.
He said regional offices of DSCC would now have to play a key coordination role in public services, including birth registration, trade licences, street lighting, waste management and mosquito control.
Abdus Salam also said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had been providing maximum support to improve civic facilities in Dhaka since assuming office, adding that the government was continuing efforts to achieve its goals.
Highlighting the importance of public awareness during the monsoon season, he urged citizens to reduce the uncontrolled use of polythene and avoid disposing of used polythene in drains to help tackle waterlogging.
He also called on local residents and political workers to come forward as volunteers and support the city corporation’s cleanliness and service activities as part of their social responsibility.
Senior DSCC officials, representatives of Dhaka Bank and local dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony.
