Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has prohibited drones and placards in the port city area centring the rally of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman scheduled to be held on Sunday.

CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz signed a notice on Friday. The notice stated that the ban has been issued to maintain public order, peace, and security at the historic Polo Ground on Saturday and Sunday.

Under the powers of Section 29 of the CMP Ordinance, 1978, no person shall be allowed to carry or use weapons, swords, spears, guns, daggers, sticks, explosives, bricks, stones, or any dangerous objects during the BNP rally.

Simultaneously, the display or carrying of any materials against state security or placards is also prohibited.

The notice further said, “Under Sections 9 and 13 of the Drone Registration and Flying Guideline, 2020, flying drones in the rally area without approval is completely prohibited.”

It also mentioned that legal action will be taken against those who violate the ban.

Party sources said that Tarique Rahman will reach Chattogram on Saturday night and will attend the rally at Polo Ground around 11:30am on Sunday as chief guest.

Tarique is going to visit the port city after 21 years. He last visited in 2005, when he addressed a public rally at Laldighi Maidan during the city corporation’s election campaign.
