Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and candidate of the 10-party alliance, has alleged that rival candidates have been violating the electoral code of conduct during the campaign.
Nahid, who is contesting from Dhaka-11 (Rampura, Badda, Vatara) with the NCP’s party symbol, Shapla Koli, also said a climate of fear is being created for voters in the constituency.
He was speaking to journalists on Saturday morning in Vatara before starting his second day of election campaigning.
“Deliberate attempts are being made to spread panic in the area,” he said, adding that banners of alliance candidates are being torn down and an atmosphere of intimidation is being fostered.
He further alleged that votes are being bought through various tactics, including promises of “family cards.” “Such false propaganda and temptations are not being believed by the people,” he remarked.
“Whatever needs to be done to guarantee a free and fair election on 12 February will be done. People themselves will guard the polling centres. No one will be able to tamper with the results,” he said.
He added that active participation of voters on election day will prevent irregularities and safeguard the people’s verdict.
