The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League is set to begin on May 5, according to sources, with player transfers scheduled for April 18 and 19.
The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) confirmed the transfer window on Monday. In a media release, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated, “The transfers will take place from 11am to 5pm on both days at the CCDM office at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.”
A total of 12 teams will take part in Bangladesh’s premier List A competition. The participating clubs are Abahani Limited, Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd, Gazi Group Cricketers, Legends of Rupganj, Gulshan Cricket Club, Agrani Bank Cricket Club, Prime Bank Cricket Club, Bashundhara Strikers (Dhanmondi Sports Club), Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club, Brothers Union Limited, City Club, and Dhaka Leopards.
The development comes after a prolonged deadlock following the last BCB election. Clubs had boycotted all tournaments under the board’s jurisdiction, citing irregularities in the electoral process.
Subsequently, the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the board led by former captain Aminul Islam Bulbul after a probe committee found irregularities.. The NSC then handed over responsibilities to an 11-member ad hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal.
After several rounds of discussions with club representatives, the impasse surrounding the DPL has finally been resolved.
Last Saturday, Tamim also held meetings with representatives of lower-tier clubs regarding the First and Second Division leagues. According to a BCB official, the discussions marked significant progress, with clubs reaching a broad understanding on key structural issues that had previously disrupted those competitions.
