The revenue department of the Dhaka North City Corporation fined about 15 establishments Tk1.80 lakh during a special enforcement drive in the capital’s Mohammadpur Ring Road and Adabor areas.

A mobile court led by DNCC Magistrate Marufa Begum Nelly penalised the businesses for operating without updated trade and advertisement licences and for maintaining unhygienic conditions, the corporation said in a press release, with DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz present during the drive.

Among the eateries, Kacchi Bhai was fined Tk50,000 for preparing and storing food in unsanitary conditions, while its trade licence was seized and the outlet sealed.

DNCC officials also found that most establishments were using signboards and billboards exceeding approved sizes and remeasured the installations to reassess taxes in line with regulations.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz said many institutions had failed to update or display their trade licences, adding that taxes are being reassessed and imposed as per the law.

He said regular payment of advertisement taxes by businesses is essential to avoid financial strain on city development and public services, and warned that routine operations will continue to curb illegal advertisements.

DNCC said notices will be issued within the week to the concerned establishments over the reassessed taxes and reiterated its commitment to regular enforcement to ensure a healthy urban environment and transparency in revenue management.
