The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has strengthened security across the capital ahead of August 15 to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of city residents.
The entire capital has been brought under heightened security to prevent any untoward incident and respond swiftly to potential threats, according to the DMP.
Police have increased pickets and checkposts across the city, while searches and security checks have been intensified at all entry points to Dhaka.
Members of the Detective Branch (DB) and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) units will remain deployed for operational activities. SWAT, bomb disposal and K-9 teams will conduct security sweeps at important installations and places where large gatherings are expected.
Key installations have been placed under special security arrangements, with CCTV cameras and drones being used for surveillance.
Members of the City Special Branch (CTSB) and Intelligence Analysis Division (IAD) will also continue intelligence gathering and monitoring in plain clothes.
Additional teams from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will be deployed as part of the heightened security measures, the DMP said.
Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will remain ready to respond to any emergency, while additional police personnel will be deployed at key points, event venues, metro rail stations, bus terminals, launch terminals, railway stations, shopping malls and other sensitive areas.
Senior DMP officials will remain in the field to oversee security arrangements in their respective jurisdictions, according to the statement.
The measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of city residents and maintaining normal law and order around 15 August.
