A coordination meeting was held to review the overall law and order situation in Dhaka, ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers, and facilitate the proper conduct of Eid congregations ahead of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr 2026.
The meeting took place on Wednesday morning at the conference room of DMP Headquarters, chaired by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner (Acting) Md Sarwar, BPM-Service.
In his address, the DMP Commissioner stated that Dhaka Metropolitan Police has taken all kinds of preparations to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr in a festive and safe environment. Alongside police measures, security awareness must also be developed at individual and institutional levels.
He said that every government agency must perform its duties with greater attention and sincerity than before to ensure a smooth and hassle-free Eid celebration. Adequate numbers of uniformed police, along with plainclothes police, DB, SWAT, dog squads, and mounted police, will be deployed at various launch terminals, bus terminals, and railway stations to ensure passenger safety.
He further stated that a sufficient number of police personnel are working tirelessly to make the Eid journey comfortable. With collective cooperation and coordination from all, it will be possible to solve various problems related to the Eid journey.
He urged magistrates from every concerned agency to ensure security surrounding Eid prayers and to conduct mobile court activities more vigorously to prevent overcharging of fares.
He also noted that due to DMP’s robust activities, there has been significant improvement in the law and order situation in the capital. Crimes such as robbery and extortion have largely decreased because of active police operations.
In conclusion, he said that through everyone’s sincere cooperation and participation, we will be able to ensure a safe, peaceful, and joyful Eid celebration.
The coordination meeting was attended by representatives from various intelligence agencies, specialised police units, the Department of Shipping, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Road Transport Federation, Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Truck Driver Workers’ Federation, Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association, Launch Workers’ Association, BKMEA, BGMEA, GMP, BIWTA, Roads and Highways Department, Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, Fire Service and Civil Defence, Bus Owners’ Association, Launch Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, and various public and private service-providing organizations.
At the beginning of the coordination meeting, Joint Police Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah, PPM, presented the overall security plan through a presentation. Subsequently, representatives from various organisations present at the meeting participated in open discussions and shared their opinions.
The coordination meeting was attended by DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics) Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, Additional Police Commissioner (Detective) Md Shafiqul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (CTTC) Md Masud Karim, Additional Police Commissioner (Protection and Diplomatic Security) Sana Shaminur Rahman, Additional Police Commissioner (Estate, Development and ICT) Mohammad Osman Gani, in addition to joint police commissioners, deputy police commissioners, police officers of various ranks, and representatives from various concerned organisations.
