Daffodil Institute of IT (DIIT) has marked a historic milestone with the foundation stone laying ceremony of its permanent campus held on Saturday at Green Model Town, Manda in the capital.
The event reflects DIIT’s continued commitment to excellence in higher education and its vision of building a modern and dynamic learning environment for future generations, reads a press release.
The foundation stone was laid by ASM Amanullah, vice chancellor of National University, Bangladesh, as the chief guest.
The ceremony was presided over by Md Sabur Khan, chairman, board of trustees (BoT), Daffodil International University and Daffodil Group.
The programme was also attended by Md Al Amin, chairman, governing body, DIIT; Md Nuruzzaman, chief executive officer, Daffodil Group; Md Mostafa Kamal, adviser, DIIT; and Md Sakhawat Hossain, principal, DIIT.
The management invited distinguished guests, academicians, alumni, students and well-wishers to witness the landmark occasion, reflecting the institute’s long-term vision for academic growth and innovation.
Speaking as chief guest, Amanullah said that as the country’s largest educational institution, the National University has prioritised skill-based and job-oriented education.
He noted that the current government has taken an initiative to produce 200,000 skilled graduates annually to address rising unemployment and meet global job demands.
As part of this effort, the initiative has been launched to train 50,000 women annually as technically skilled freelancers.
He added that the United Arab Emirates alone requires 25,000 skilled graduates in hospitality management annually, and institutions affiliated with the National University can play a significant role in meeting this demand.
He further said that institutions like DIIT have played an important role in producing skilled graduates in the past and are expected to continue doing so, with the National University extending full cooperation.
In his presidential address, Sabur said, “we must move forward to fulfill the objective for which the late Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia established the National University.
The establishment of this university has facilitated the expansion of higher education to the grassroots level. He further added that unless we develop the skill matrices of our students, they will not be able to compete in the local and international job markets.”
The establishment of the permanent campus marks a new chapter in DIIT’s journey toward academic excellence, innovation and industry-oriented education. The new campus is expected to feature state-of-the-art facilities, creating an enriched environment for teaching, learning, research and student development.
DIIT reaffirmed its commitment to producing competent graduates and contributing significantly to the advancement of education and national development in Bangladesh.
