Bangladesh will host its first stadium-based ultra-running event on December 25–26 as the “Dhaka Stadium Run 2025” is set to take place at the National Football Stadium in the capital.
The event marks the country’s debut in stadium ultra-running, a format popular abroad but never organised before in Bangladesh, according to a press release by the organiser Coastal Ultra Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Athletics Federation is supporting the initiative as part of efforts to expand the country’s presence in global endurance sports.
Earlier this year Coastal Ultra Bangladesh organised the country’s longest ultra-marathon on the Marine Drive in Cox’s Bazar, with nearly 400 runners from home and abroad competing in 50 km, 100 km, 100 miles and 200 km categories.
Stadium ultra-running differs from distance-based races because athletes compete for time and aim to cover as much ground as possible within fixed durations.
The Dhaka Stadium Run 2025 will feature four international time divisions of 36 hours, 24 hours, 12 hours and 6 hours. Organisers plan to select around 400 runners through a screening process. Nearly 200 volunteers will support operations over the two-day programme.
Competitors will run through day and night under stadium floodlights as they push their endurance limits.
Applications will open on November 16 at 8pm, and only shortlisted runners will secure entry.
Athletes may apply through the official website of Coastal Ultra Bangladesh. Organisers expect the event to set a new benchmark for endurance sports in Bangladesh and create scope for more specialised competitions.
