BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged to turn Dhaka into a “safe city” and build at least 40 playgrounds across the capital if his party is elected.
Addressing a roadside rally at ECB Chattar in Mirpur under the Dhaka-17 constituency on Sunday, he said BNP would work to make Dhaka a liveable and secure city where people can move freely without fear.
He said the city would be made safe for women at all times and enable residents to live, work and run businesses securely, adding that the aim was to make Dhaka a greener and more breathable city.
Referring to the shortage of playfields in the area, he said he had been informed that the locality lacked adequate playgrounds and pledged to construct at least 40 playgrounds across Dhaka if the BNP forms the government after the 12 February election.
He said the playgrounds would allow children to play in open spaces and give women and the elderly opportunities to walk and spend time outdoors.
Seeking votes for the BNP’s election symbol, the “sheaf of paddy”, he said the election was crucial for rebuilding the country.
Introducing himself to voters, he said he was a son of the area and had grown up in Mirpur, with his family life deeply rooted there.
He appealed to elders, women and young voters of the constituency to support him in the upcoming polls.
The BNP chief also pledged to develop the road from ECB Chattar to the Jasimuddin area to ease communication for local residents.
After the rally, he left for another campaign meeting at Adarsha High School in Senpara, Mirpur-10.
He is also scheduled to address rallies in Pallabi’s Lalmath under Dhaka-16, Mirpur under Dhaka-15, the National Bangla High School ground opposite Mirpur Model Thana under Dhaka-14, Shyamoli Club ground under Dhaka-13, and the Satarkul area of Badda under Dhaka-11.
