Train communication on Dhaka-Jamalpur route returned to normal on Wednesday afternoon, about three and a half hours after a carriage of “Brahmaputra Express” derailed in Mymensingh.
The derailment occurred around 9:15am in Itakhola Road area.
According to railway and local sources, four wheels of the power car (electricity-conducting carriage) of Dhaka-bound “Brahmaputra Express,” which had departed from Dewanganj, veered off the tracks.
The train reportedly travelled nearly half a kilometre following the derailment, resulting in damage to a railway culvert.
The incident left hundreds of passengers stranded mid-journey, causing them immense suffering.
Aktar Hossain, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Mymensingh Railway Police Station, confirmed the matter.
He stated that after being informed, a rescue train from the Kewatkhali loco shed reached the site and commenced recovery efforts.
The communication was restored around 12:45pm once the derailed carriage was successfully removed.
