Bangladesh on Tuesday strongly condemned an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon that killed two Bangladeshi nationals, expressing deep grief over the incident and initiating steps for the repatriation of their bodies.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Bangladesh condemned in the strongest possible terms the attack by Israeli forces that claimed the lives of two Bangladeshi nationals in southern Lebanon yesterday.”
The victims were identified as Shafiqul Islam from Satkhira Sadar and Md Nahidul Islam Nahid from Ashashuni upazila of Satkhira district.
The government expressed profound sorrow and extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased.
According to the ministry, the Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon is working closely with local authorities to complete the necessary formalities for repatriating the bodies. The mission is also maintaining regular communication with the families of the victims.
Bangladesh also reiterated its serious concern over the ongoing violence and the rising civilian casualties in the region, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint.
It further called for strict adherence to international humanitarian law amid the continuing conflict situation in the Middle East.
