Apex Tannery has started construction work on its in-house Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), beginning soil excavation as the company moves to strengthen environmental compliance and improve sustainable operations.

The company started excavation work for the treatment facility on 26 September, according to a disclosure published on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday.

Apex Tannery had informed the DSE on 14 January 2026 about its decision to establish an in-house ETP.

The latest development marks the start of physical work on the facility, which is expected to improve the company’s waste treatment capacity and support compliance with environmental standards.

The move comes as Bangladesh’s tannery sector continues to face environmental compliance challenges, with the central ETP at the Savar tannery industrial complex remaining non-functional for an extended period.

Industry stakeholders say compliance failures have affected the sector’s ability to secure fair prices in international markets, prompting leading tannery companies to invest in their own treatment facilities.

Apex Tannery shares, with a face value of Tk10, closed 0.32 per cent lower at Tk93.50 on the DSE on Sunday.
