A coalition of Dhaka-based cricket club organisers and councillors has called for the immediate cancellation of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors’ election, currently scheduled for October 6.
In a press conference held on Saturday at the Mohammedan Sporting Club premises, officials representing around 43 of the 76 BCB-affiliated clubs issued a warning that they would boycott all future domestic leagues if their demands are not met by Sunday.
Prominent organisers Rafiqul Islam Babu, Lutfor Rahman Badol, and Masuduzzaman addressed the briefing, with other key figures such as Iftekhar Rahman Mithu and Khaled Mahmud also in attendance.
The group proposed three alternative solutions to resolve the current standoff:

Extension of the current board’s tenure to ensure a transparent and inclusive election process,

Formation of an ad-hoc committee to oversee and conduct the elections, or

Immediate cancellation of the current election schedule and the establishment of a new timeline by the Election Commission or a newly formed commission.
The dispute centres on a recent High Court ruling that revoked the councillorship and voting rights of 15 clubs. The protesting organisers expressed strong opposition to the decision and announced plans to challenge the ruling through legal means.
They stressed that the exclusion of these clubs undermines the fairness of the upcoming election and restricts broader participation from key stakeholders in Bangladesh cricket.
