The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will hold its board of directors’ election on 4 October, officials have confirmed. Cricket Operations Committee chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim had previously announced that the election would take place in October, and the board has now finalised the schedule.
On 13 September, BCB directors held an urgent meeting in Mirpur to discuss the procedural framework for the upcoming election. The session, chaired by BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul at the boardroom, also reviewed potential timelines for the forthcoming EGM and AGM and considered a provisional councillor list for Dhaka metropolitan club cricket organisers.
Following the meeting, BCB director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu told the media: “There is a step-by-step process underway for the BCB election in October. Three election commissioners have been appointed and understand their responsibilities. We discussed the process, when and how letters will be sent, and related matters.”
The three-member election commission comprises:
Advocate Mohammad Hossain, senior advocate of the Supreme Court – Chief Election Commissioner
Md. Sibgat Ullah, BPM, PPM, Additional Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and Chief of CID – Election Commissioner
Executive Director (Joint Secretary), National Sports Council – Election Commissioner
The election schedule has been set as follows: the draft voter list will be published on 20 September, with the final voter list issued on 21 September at 4:30 PM. Nomination papers will be sold on 22–23 September and submitted on 25 September. The list of valid candidates will be published on 26 September, with appeals and hearings on 27 September, and the option to withdraw nominations on 28 September. The election and preliminary results will be announced on 4 October, followed by the official declaration on 5 October.
The BCB election structure specifies three categories for director selection: 10 from divisional sports organisations (Category 1), 12 from club representatives (Category 2), and one from former captains and institutional representatives (Category 3). Additionally, two directors will come from the National Sports Council. The BCB president will be elected subsequently by a vote of the 25 directors.
The last BCB election was held on 6 October 2021, and as per the board’s constitution, the next election falls exactly four years later.
