Deputy Attorney General AKM Rezaul Karim Khandaker has resigned from his post to participate in the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections.
He submitted his resignation letter to the administrative officer of the Attorney General’s office on Sunday. Relevant sources confirmed the development on the same day.
Khandaker has decided to run for the post of Secretary in the SCBA elections for the 2026-27 term.
He has already filed his nomination papers and will be contesting from the “Sabuj Panel” (Green Panel), which is backed by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. The two-day election for the SCBA, one of the nation’s premier professional organisations for lawyers, is scheduled to be held on 13 and 14 May.
AKM Rezaul Karim Khandaker was appointed as a law officer during the tenure of the previous interim government to represent the state in cases before the Supreme Court. He had been serving in that capacity since his appointment.
