A court has banned Delta Group Chairman AKM Faruk Ahmed and his wife Ferdous Ara Begum from travelling abroad, as the couple is currently under Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation.
On Wednesday, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez gave the order following an ACC plea. Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter to TIMES of Bangladesh.
ACC Assistant Director Md Saifur Rahman applied for the travel ban, which stated that an investigation is underway against Delta Group Chairman AKM Faruk Ahmed on allegations of taking Tk2,250 crore in loans from various banks.
Faruk also faces allegations of laundering money abroad through over-invoicing and dual LCs, along with illegal wealth accumulation.
The application further stated that during the inquiry, reliable sources indicated that the couple might flee the country. Therefore, to ensure a proper investigation of the allegations, it is imperative to impose a ban on their foreign travel.
