Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Christian Brix Møller, paid a courtesy call on the Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Labour and Employment Dr M Sakhawat Hossain, at the Ministry of Shipping on Tuesday afternoon.
Adviser Sakhawat Hossain said the current government is committed to increasing direct foreign investment and highlighted the favorable investment climate prevailing in Bangladesh. He expressed his firm commitment to further strengthening the friendly ties between Bangladesh and Denmark, particularly in the shipbuilding sector and other areas.
The adviser also briefed the ambassador on various steps taken by Bangladesh to protect the environment, address climate change, implement IMO conventions, promote digitalisation, and prevent marine pollution.
Referring to Bangladesh’s candidacy for Category ‘C’ membership in the upcoming (2026-27 term) International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council elections, the adviser sought Denmark’s support on behalf of Bangladesh. He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to the development of the maritime sector for all IMO member states. In response, the Danish Ambassador assured full cooperation and requested Denmark’s support for Bangladesh in the IMO elections. The adviser assured the Ambassador of Bangladesh’s unwavering support for Denmark.
The adviser reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to sustainable maritime development and expressed strong support for IMO’s vision of a carbon-neutral future.
The meeting also covered labour reforms under the caretaker government over the past year, including the formation of the Labor Reform Commission, reconstitution of the National Tripartite Consultative Council (NTCC), and important amendments to the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006. The adviser informed the Danish Ambassador that amendments to bring the Labour Act in line with International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards will be completed within the year, emphasising the government’s commitment to elevating the law to international standards.
Senior officials from both ministries attended the meeting were present at the meeting.
