Special Response Battalion-2 (SRB-2) has cordoned off the former Trade Fair grounds behind Gono Bhaban in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar following the recovery of a large cache of explosives, including 15 crude bombs and five petrol bombs.
Acting on a tip-off, the SRB conducted a drive at the former Trade Fair grounds on Monday afternoon. A total of 15 crude bombs and five petrol bombs – amounting to more than 20 explosives in total – were recovered, with a number of them found inside a bag.
SRB-2 Commanding Officer Additional DIG Naimul Hasan confirmed the matter. He said the explosives were recovered during the operation conducted on the basis of a tip-off, and a bomb disposal team was called in to defuse them.

SRB-2 Company Commander Squadron Leader Nifaz Rahman also confirmed the recovery of the 15 crude bombs and five petrol bombs from the field.
Describing the situation on the ground, Squadron Leader Nifaz said, “Our team has reached the spot and started work. A good number of bombs were found inside a bag. A search is underway in the area to find out if there are more explosives.”
Law enforcement personnel present at the scene have cordoned off the entire area, while the movement of the general public is being controlled for safety reasons. Members of the SRB-2 bomb disposal unit subsequently began work to defuse the recovered explosives.
It was not immediately known how the recovered explosives arrived at the location or who was involved. Relevant sources said detailed information might be available following the completion of the recovery drive and explosive disposal work.
