A new film festival is set to debut in Cox’s Bazar this month, as the Cox’s Bazar Film Club prepares to organise its first-ever cinematic event to coincide with Bangladesh’s Independence Day celebrations.
The two-day spanning Cox’s Bazar Film Festival will begin on March 27 and feature a selection of six full-length films along with a documentary. Screenings will take place at Laboni Beach Point, where audiences will be able to watch the films in an open setting by the sea.
The opening evening will start with a documentary screening, followed by three feature films: ‘Chhayabrikkho’ by Bandhan Biswas, ‘Jolorong’ by Apurba Rana and ‘Dot’ by Barua Sunanda Kakon.
On March 28, the festival will conclude with another line-up of feature films including ‘Behula Dorodi’ directed by Sabuj Khan, ‘Moynar Char’ by Mostafizur Rahman Babu and ‘Madhyobitto’ by Tanvir Hasan.
According to Mohammad Selim, president of the Cox’s Bazar Film Club, the initiative aims to revive the collective experience of watching films on the big screen at a time when many viewers consume cinema primarily on mobile devices.
Three films will be shown each evening and the screenings will be open to the public. The event is being organised with support from the Cox’s Bazar District Administration, Bangladesh Film Archive, the Department of Mass Communication and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Channel S will serve as the media partner.
