A court has ordered the seizure of income tax documents of Md Anwarul Islam, assistant engineer of the Mujib Kella Project under the Disaster Management Department, and his wife Tahmina Akter, in connection with allegations of corruption and illegal asset accumulation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Wednesday, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter.
The ACC Assistant Director, Sourav Das, filed the application seeking the seizure of the couple’s tax records.
According to the petition, Md Anwarul Islam is accused of embezzlement, bribery, and acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income.
Preliminary investigations indicate the need to examine the tax records to verify the true source and extent of the couple’s wealth.
