A Dhaka court on Monday placed 26-year-old Md Mamun Hossain on a three-day remand following his arrest at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport over alleged links to extremist organisations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order after the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit produced the suspect in court with a seven-day remand prayer. Mamun was shown arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Earlier on Sunday night, Mamun was detained at the immigration duty officer’s detention room at the airport while attempting to board a flight to Qatar. The arrest was made based on specific intelligence regarding his involvement with extremist groups.
Law enforcement officials seized his passport, mobile phone, and other personal belongings as evidence.
In the remand application, CTTC Sub-Inspector Md Motiur Rahman Mollah said custodial interrogation is essential to examine the suspect’s mobile phone, digital devices, and communications on social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and Instagram.
The investigators also noted that the remand is necessary to identify Mamun’s potential associates, determine his sources of funding, uncover the purpose of his overseas travel, and extract information regarding any possible sabotage plans.
Mamun Hossain hails from the South Paikpara area under Tongibari Police Station in Munshiganj.
According to source records, Mamun is already facing multiple cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Tejgaon Industrial Area and Gendaria police stations, which are currently pending in court.
Public Prosecutor Harun Or Rashid confirmed the development, saying that the court granted three days of remand after hearing both sides.
