Police have filed a case against the suspected members of ‘Fatah Combat System (FCS)’ over allegations of involvement in extremist activities.
Inspector AB Siddique of Jatrabari Police Station filed the case on Saturday afternoon following an investigation by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
CTTC chief Shamsul Haque said the case names 10 to 12 individuals linked to FCS over their alleged involvement in extremist activities.
He said investigators were still trying to determine the actual size of the organisation but had found evidence that the group was active in several districts.
The organisation allegedly used physical fitness and martial arts training programmes as a cover for carrying out extremist activities in different parts of the country, according to police.
Wari Division Deputy Commissioner Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami said the case was filed after the CTTC gathered substantial information about the group’s alleged activities.
Police arrested six FCS members from the Jatrabari area on 5 July. Following their arrest under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the suspects were placed on remand for questioning.
Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammed Raju said investigators found evidence of their alleged involvement in extremist activities during interrogation.
Police also claimed that Shah Amanat Sabir, founder and chief instructor of FCS, admitted to his involvement with the organisation during questioning.
Meanwhile, another alleged FCS member, Tahsin Islam, 19, was arrested from Jashore on Thursday night and sent to jail on Friday.
Police said a search of his residence led to the recovery of a machete and several electronic devices, including wires. During preliminary questioning, Tahsin allegedly admitted to having links with FCS, according to police.
Sub-Inspector Masum of the general registration branch at the Jatrabari court confirmed the arrest and legal proceedings.
