A Dhaka court on Friday sent a 19-year-old youth, identified as Tahsin Islam, to prison over his alleged involvement with the extremist outfit “Fatah Combat.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al Biruni Meer passed the order following an application by the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector AB Siddique of Jatrabari Police Station.
The investigating officer produced the suspect in court under Section 54 and sought a seven-day remand for interrogation. However, the court rejected the remand plea and ordered the suspect to be sent to prison.
The court also directed that the investigation be completed and a report submitted by 26 July. No bail petition was moved on behalf of Tahsin during the hearing.
Earlier, on Thursday at approximately 9pm, the Jashore District Detective Branch (DB) police detained Tahsin from his residence. During a search of his room, officers seized a machete, wires, and several electronic devices.
Mirazul Islam, additional superintendent of police (crime) in Jashore, said the detention was carried out in connection with a case filed with the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit in the capital.
He further noted that Tahsin is also the third accused in a prior robbery case.
During preliminary interrogation, Tahsin reportedly admitted his involvement with the “Fatah Combat System (FCS).” Police added that, according to the suspect’s information, the organisation has no active members or organisational activities in Jashore.
Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating allegations that the “Fatah Combat System (FCS)” is radicalising youth under the guise of martial arts training. Statements from relevant parties regarding these allegations were not immediately available as the matter remains under investigation.
