Bangladesh have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee after maintaining a slow over rate during the second men’s ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare on Thursday.
The sanction was imposed by David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees after Bangladesh were found to be two overs short of the required rate once time allowances had been taken into account.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, teams are penalised for failing to complete their overs within the allotted time. Players receive a fine of five per cent of their match fee for every over their side falls short.
As Bangladesh were ruled to be two overs behind the target, each player was fined 10 per cent of their match fee.
Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge was brought by on field umpires Allahudien Palekar and Iknow Chabi, along with third umpire Percival Sizara and fourth umpire Forster Mutizwa.
